316 Stainless Steel Plate Features

316 stainless steel plate is particularly good in corrosion resistance and high temperature strength due to the addition of 2.00 to 3.00 molybdenum. SS 316 plate can resist atmospheric corrosion, as well as moderate oxidation and reduction environment, and can also resist corrosion in polluted marine atmosphere. It has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion in welded state, and has excellent strength and toughness at high temperature. Alloy 316 is nonmagnetic in the annealed condition, but becomes slightly magnetic as a result of cold working or welding. 316 stainless sheet can be easily welded and machined with standard workshop manufacturing practices, DIN 1.4401 stainless steel plate also has good processability and weldability.

316 Stainless Steel Plate VS 304 Stainless Steel Plate
Both grades 304 and 306 are austenitic stainless steels, which are one of the most widely used and versatile steels. 304 stainless steel plate has excellent corrosion resistance, while ASME SA240 UNS S31600 plate contains element Mo, Mo can provide better high temperature resistance, that's why 316 has better corrosion resistance than 304 under high temperature conditions. However, if the environment consists of sulfuric acid, do not use 316 at high temperatures because molybdenum readily reacts with high valent sulfur ions and forms sulfides. SS 1.4436 plate has higher corrosion resistance than 304 stainless steel plate, especially in chloride ion environment. Therefore, 316 stainless steel is often used in corrosive environments such as oceans. 316 stainless steel plate is stronger than 304, but less ductile and machinable.

Application of  Stainless Steel 316 Plate
